5The Ultimate Toaster
By Mr. K. B. Thomas
After buying many cheaper toasters we decided to see if the Dualit was really worth the money.

And yes, it is, every penny.

Its simple timer mechanism means YOU decide how you want your toast, bagels, crumpets, rolls, toasted sandwiches etc etc.

Works perfectly with frozen bread, for thicker slices you can even heat them up a bit, then leave them in the warm toaster for a while for the centre to defrost, then heat again to finish them off to perfection.

It's the only toaster we found that can cope with odd shaped slices of bread made in our bread machine without jamming up and burning them.

The build quality is robust and this is the only domestic appliance we own that we could actually repair ourselves. You can order spare parts so this toaster really might last for ever!

And it's made in the UK.....

3This toaster looks great but performance is patchy
By Simonides
Fed up with having to change my toaster just after the warranty expires, I bought the Dualit from Amazon in 2004 (3.5 years ago) so this is a long term review. I thought that as long as parts remain available it would last a lifetime and I'd be dumping less landfill. I was attracted by its great looks and reputation. However, the performance is quite average.Pros+ Looks and feels greatCons- About ten times more expensive than a 'cheap' toaster.- It doesn't cope well with non-standard size slices and as I make my own bread the slices often poke over the top and so taller slices may have an untoasted end.- Bread is unevenly toasted.- The time needed to toast a slice of bread depends on type of bread (white toasts faster) and how fresh it is. As the timing duration relies on a timer and not a sensor, it's dependent on your judgement, so rather hit or miss. Difficult to explain when mother in law visits!- Mine is the four slice toaster. I can select whether to heat two or four elements, but heating an odd number of slices is a waste of energy in the unused slot. I suggest a four way switch be incorporated in future models.- The clockwork timer failed after 3 years of daily use - There are many reports of failing timers on the internet so it seems to be common. More importantly THIS IS A FIRE RISK as the Dualit just carries on toasting. It really is poor design as it should have been fail-safe. Dualit charge around £25 for a self-fit timer including delivery but kindly agreed to send one out free of charge as a 'one off' which was great news and prompted me to up my rating from two to three stars.- I bought the sandwich toaster accessory which is a wire frame with a handle that squeezes two slices into one slot, but it's not really usable except with a standard sliced loaf as anything thicker won't fit in the toaster. On balance, although I like the toaster, and hope it'll last decades, I probably couldn't completely recommend it due to the uneven performance, doubts over the timer reliability and concerns about safety.

4Rolls Royce of Toaster - design classic - oozes style
By Alessi Lover
'Wow' A super classy looking toasting machine.I have wanted one of these for a while now, and have recently been bought one (yes burning the toast beforehand has worked) new Dualit now pride of place in the kitchen. One thing I must point out is that the instructions say that the Guarantee card is there, but it is not. I rang Dualit up today and asked where it was, answer .... well that is before we changed the way it works (just supply receipt). Also I know a very minor thing, but well this machine is not peanuts so you would think leaflets etc were proof read and the right information given as the word guarantee is not even spelt right. Worrying thing was Dualit didn't seem to mind. Well lets just hope the examiner on mine 20 didn't have a bad day altogether. Customer service does not seem to be one of its main points sadly.Unpacked the machine and husband noticed that the wire baskets inside were slightly catching and not going all the way down, he sorted this by taking the bottom off and relining them, a shame really as spending 'rolls royce' money on it you would think better. Come on Dualit you need to check carefully.Answer from Dualit on these issues was contact the seller (internet site) as the guarantee for the first 12 months is with them (internet seller). What happened to the good old days of the company actually being bothered and doing something about something themselves (are companies not that concerned about their companies image.Luckily the toaster oozes the style and grace it was designed to have, main thing is the toast tastes great out of it.It is not just any toaster (well our last one did last 12 years, nothing wrong with it but a Dualit was pleading with me to buy it each time I looked in a department store), you know that nice shiny look of please take me home and make me make toast for you. It worked. No popping up toast, no buzzer to warn you if has finished, more refined a timer switch that times down (not that noisy think of a kitchen timer and you have it). You can keep checking on your toast by lifting the stick button, but you will have to try a little of trial and error for the first few times, especially if you are using different types of bread. On the whole toast comes out looking akin to that in top hotels (most likely as that is what they use - a Dualit). If you want a stylish and classic looking toaster look no more -this is the one , but don't spend time looking for that guarantee card, just keep your receipt. Now I really wanted to give this a 5 star but with Dualit not being too helpful and myself thinking if there is another issue how will they deal with it can only give it a 4 star.
